CLUB INFORMATION |
CLUB HISTORY Brede steam amateur radio society was set up in January 2005 by amateur radio enthusiasts who wanted to operate radio. The club was formed to enable its members to participate in competitions and promote amateur radio. So many radio clubs these days have regular meetings and lectures etc. be it each week or each month, but there are few that are purely an operation club. Six amateur radio enthusiasts got round the table and created all the necessary paper work that would enable the club to be established. It was not an easy job. The first thing we had to do was to find a suitable venue. Fortunately we were offered the rooms in an old Nuclear Fall Out Bunker at the site of Southern Water Board in the village of Brede. Hence the club call sign M0NUC. Although he Comm's room was damp it did not take us long to clear it up and make it a better environment to sit. Having established ourselves in the Bunker and with the club call, we felt we should have a permanent special event call sign which would promote the club and the Bunker, so GB6BSR was formed. Desks, chairs, tables and cabinets followed as did the loan of some operating equipment including a Gap Titan vertical antenna. Below are some of BSARS members erecting the Gap Voyager.
Over time the club has become more and more recognised as a club whose ambitions are to move forward all the time. Training and special eventing is paramount for the club, and amateur radio, to survive. The club now has a New Operating Shack and works closely with the Brede Scout Group. Below are some of the Brede Scouts and BSARS members.
Having obtained a lottery grant the club now has new equipment and will soon be involved with operating at national field day events.
We can also cater for the education of future radio amateurs by offering the three levels of training, Foundation, Intermediate and Full that will enable others to gain their ticket, and follow in our footsteps. For more information please see CONTACT US or send an email to m0nuc@aol.com AIMS OF BSARS Our aim shall be to further amateur radio by increasing the awareness of Amateur Radio within the wider community and serving the public; by promoting technical knowledge and individual operating proficiency of its members; by operating Radio within the community when community events are taking place. To show the community what Amateur Radio can do for them in cases of emergency. By working with the younger generation Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Boys and Girls Brigades it is hoped that we, BSARS, will be able to make a small contribution towards keeping Amateur Radio alive for generations to come. |
