JOTA Weekend 2009.

The JOTA weekend took place on the 17th and 18th October 2009.

On the 17th there were 15 scouts from various scouting groups around Hastings and Brede who took their communicator badge. This involved several hours of the scouts time listening and participating in different events during the day.

Events such as "Rules and Regulations of Amateur Radio", "How radio waves travel", "Q codes" and sending a brief greetings message using the radio.

A demonstration of Echolink was used during the day and several of the scouts had a brief chat with other JOTA stations around the world, notably Australia and South Africa. See The logbook for ECHOLINK contacts.

All 17 scouts passed and now have the right to wear their badge on their uniform.

On the Sunday the 1st Brede scout group took part in the JOTA weekend proper making many calls using HF radio and Echolink. Some of the newly qualified scouts with their M6 calls - obtained earlier in the year - used the HF rigs with confidence and were soon logging many calls. See the HF logbook for contacts.
