Welcome to my page on the club site. My name is Antony and I live with my wife on the outskirts of Westfield , just North of Hastings. My interest in radio started at the age of about 7 whilst living on the island of Borneo . My father was stationed in Sarawak for a number of years and the main entertainment at home was radio (Television had not reached those colonial outposts at that time). I used to tune my parents' radio-gram to the short-waves and listen to the native fishing boats, aircraft and the police. When my parents retired to Battle I picked up my first radio amateurs on the same old radio-gram tuned to 160m AM. I was not allowed to study for the RAE until I had finished my eductation and so I remained an SWL throughout my school days, mainly using ex military equipment such as 19 sets, not always on receive!
My first callsign (G8FCY) arrived on the door step in August 1971 and my current callsign (G4CUS) arrived in January 1974. I am just as active now as I was in the early days. I find that there is always something new to investigate / experiment with and thanks to the enthusiasm of the two Steves in the club I have recently 'discovered' the digital modes, especially PSK31 and RTTY. My home equipment includes an FT2000 with quadra amplifier into a 3 element beam for 10,15, and 20mtrs and half-wave dipoles for 80 and 40mtrs. I hope to construct an aerial for the WARC bands soon. I also operate mobile using an FT897 with Atas120 aerial on HF and VHF.
